Meet Melanee Wood

Certified Physician Assistant Melanee Wood brings a wide range of experience in clinical care, leadership, and education to her practice at OPA. Before becoming a Physician Assistant (PA), she directed fitness programs at the University of Houston. She developed and mentored hundreds of student employees and taught courses in health promotion and physical fitness. That early work in fitness and wellness laid the foundation for a second career in medicine.

Melanee has previously worked as a PA in Pediatric Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Texas Children’s Hospital where she cared for children and young adults recovering from significant accidents, illness, and injuries including complex neurologic and orthopedic conditions. In addition to her clinical practice, she conducted clinical research and served in a departmental leadership role to broaden her impact. At this time, she was also an instructor for the Physician Assistant Program at Baylor College of Medicine, involved as a lecturer, clinical preceptor, and research mentor.

The mountains have called Melanee to Alaska for her recreational pursuits. She brings her experience in education, rehabilitation, and patient-centered care to the OPA foot and ankle team where she helps patients overcome injury and get back to the activities they love.
