Meet Kathryn (“Katie”) Newberry, MSPAS, PA-C, MPH

Physician Assistant Katie Newberry was born and raised in Eagle River and brings a unique depth of insight to the patient care experience. Before becoming a PA, she worked as a medical assistant here at OPA and quickly worked her way up the chain to team leader, surgery scheduler, and was a vital member of the care team.

Inspired to do more direct patient care, Katie went back to school and completed a double Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and Public Health. After soaking up the science, she returned to Alaska with many skills ranging from injury care to surgical first assist, and was instilled with a passion to serve her community.

Before re-joining OPA in 2022, Katie worked as a physician assistant in primary care, urgent care, and pediatrics where she managed both physical and behavioral conditions.

Today at OPA, Katie takes a whole-person approach to orthopedic care. She especially enjoys providing care to patients with acute injuries, developing treatment plans for recovery, and working with them to improve their overall health.

When not providing care to patients in the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her family and getting outside to hike, bike, fish and ski.
