Meet Bryan Haughom, MD

Dr. Bryan Haughom is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. As a high-volume adult reconstruction surgeon, he performs advanced primary and revision hip and knee replacement procedures, including complex reconstructions for failed joint replacements. His expertise includes muscle-sparing surgical techniques such as direct anterior total hip replacement and sub-vastus total knee replacement, which are designed to minimize soft tissue disruption, reduce postoperative pain, and facilitate expedited recovery.

Committed to delivering individualized care, Dr. Haughom believes surgery should only be pursued when appropriate. He works closely with patients to explore non-surgical treatment options whenever possible and develops personalized treatment plans based on each patient’s goals, anatomy, and lifestyle. When surgery is indicated, he utilizes the latest evidence-based techniques and technologies to help patients return to the activities they enjoy.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Haughom is actively involved in advancing the field of joint replacement surgery. A dedicated and well-published researcher, he remains engaged in the development, evaluation, and teaching of modern hip and knee replacement techniques. He regularly collaborates with surgeons and industry leaders to educate other orthopedic surgeons on contemporary approaches to both primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Haughom graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California with a degree in Computer Science. Prior to medicine, he worked in the healthcare technology industry, helping develop solutions that improved access to care and patient outcomes. Driven by a desire to directly impact patients’ lives, he pursued medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where he earned his medical degree.

He completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, one of the nation’s premier orthopedic training programs, before completing a fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. This advanced training focused on complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Haughom and his wife moved to Alaska in 2017 and immediately fell in love with the state and the community. He joined Orthopedic Physicians Alaska in 2020 and is proud to serve patients throughout Alaska, helping them restore mobility, relieve pain, and return to active lives.
