About

Dr. Sharon Ong graduated from Johns Hopkins University in just three years, with a degree in neuroscience and minor in psychology, both with honors. In medical school at University of Maryland School of Medicine, she discovered physical medicine and rehabilitation. She was immediately drawn to the field for its holistic approach and focus on maximizing each patient’s potential, regardless of their diagnosis.

Today as a physiatrist at OPA, Dr. Ong specializes in non-operative management of musculoskeletal issues, utilizing different modalities and thinking outside the box for management of various conditions. She believes in educating her patients on their condition, its root causes, and all treatment options available. She works with patients to mitigate risk of future injury, pain flares, or progression of disease with the goal of helping patients reach their maximum functional potential – and feel empowered in their medical care.

In addition to being a skilled physiatrist, Dr. Ong is an athlete and a musician. She grew up playing table tennis competitively, played lacrosse and ran track in high school, and is now a distance runner. She’s also a classically trained pianist and percussionist and especially enjoys treating performing artists.
